CheatMine is a 32-bit child of the classic Windows game, WinMine. It improves
WinMine where it went short, but also it adds new, exciting features for the
MineManiac.
CheatMine's improvements over the old WinMine are:
-
Time measuring is accurate; the old WinMine goes 10 sec off in 100 sec
-
For players that are faster than the program, the mouse is not "slippery" any
more
-
If you press the mouse button on a square and you change your mind, you can
always drag the mouse outside the window and release the button ... no need to
die !
-
Real fast redrawing when you hit a bomb or when you
start a new game
It features:
-
Automatic Mine Marking: when an open square with the number x has
exactly x closed squares around it, then they get automatically marked! This of
course can be deactivated through the game settings. A feature especially
helpful for novice players, who want some extra help, but also for experienced
players, whom it boosts towards even better high scores ...
-
Cheat mode: This is the feature that gave its name to the game. You
can ask CheatMine to "lie" to you in one or more squares, i.e. to show a
different number than it should. Lies are always "off by one", so that a 2 will
become either a 1 or a 3. You can have up to 10 lies in a game, and make it
very mind challenging to solve, as you have to locate the lies... The player
can decide which numbers s/he wants to trust. If e.g. you decide that you trust
1's, when you see "1" in a square you know that it is not a lie, and you can
either open up squares, or locate the lie.
-
Allows mistakes: Isn't it really annoying when you lose a game after
minutes of playing just because you had to choose randomly between two squares
and (bless Murphy) you hit the wrong one? CheatMine allows you to make up to 10
mistakes: when you hit the bomb, you don't die, but receive a time penalty. If
you don't want this to happen in the first clicks of a game (who would like to
start a game with penalties?), you can define how many squares to open before
activating the mistakes' feature.
-
Better playing experience, timing and high scores:
-
If you step on a bomb and lose, you don't have to click on the little face to
start a new game or press F2; you just click the right mouse button anywhere in
the game board.
-
Times and high scores are measured in milliseconds. When the board is wide
enough, the timer has four digits for seconds as well as the msec (little)
digits.
-
The high score table holds the 5 best times for all types of games.
High scores are also kept for custom games; each time you play a custom game
you have played before, your previous high scores are retrieved.
-
Custom games: CheatMine remembers custom game configurations that you
have played in the past (along with your high scores). When creating a custom
game, you can either select an old one from a list, or define the size and mine
number. The game calculates the mine density (mines per area) for custom games
you create. The "Custom game" dialog box also shows you the densities of the
three standard games so that you can compare them to yours. You can resize the
window to create a custom game with the same number of mines but different
size. While you do the resizing, you can see the new board's dimensions and
mine density on the title bar.
