Natasa Manousopoulou
A short autobiography
I was born in Athens, Greece in 1972 and attended the 120 Elementary School in Athens, when, in the third grade, I met Dimitris. After a rather uneventful school life, with good grades and bad habits, I moved on to the National Technical University of Athens, where I got my diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

My love, since a little child, has been language in all its manifestations, especially in the form of prose. I have been a passionate reader of anything in print since I learnt how to read. The way I found to combine this interest in language with my CS studies was Natural Language Processing, i.e. algorithmic processing of human languages and especially parsing. My diploma thesis in 1995 involved this subject. This work, under a scholarship from NCSR Demokritos, was extended both along the same and other, new research lines, to form my PhD thesis, which I defended in 1999. For the next year, I worked as a post doc researcher at the Computer Systems Laboratory in NTUA.

After this year, something happened to me. I always loved to program, and had put in action every little algorithmic idea I had in my NLP research. But then I realized that I would really like to do more down-to-earth things, and write code that other people would use in their everyday lives, and feel good with it. So, in the autumn of 2000, I made the big leap, and left the academia for the Real World. Maybe it was only the shock of being just married.

Since then, I have been working as a software engineer in LogicDIS, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, software house in Greece. I spent four years, initially in a team, then by myself, maintaining and extending the in house business framework on which many of our company's software products are based. But this was a little R&D as well, wasn't it? So, in the autumn of 2004, I left the Omega framework in the caring hands of my husband and his team (the company's R&D department), and took up as lead developer in the team that develops two HR software products: HRMS and Personnel .

These years in LogicDIS have not been totally uninterrupted. Both in the beginning of 2002 and the summer of 2003, I left work for a few months, to give birth to my two wonderful children, Eva-Maria and Lambros. Now, all my time is divided between my work and them (well, that's a lie, there is also some time for my husband there in the equation). When do I find time to read, you ask? Well, that is something I would not give up for the world ;-)

Sorry dudes and dudettes, you are going to have to type that in. That's the minimal spam protection I can go along with.

My ICQ number is 522610, but I am not very often online since ICQ can't pass through the company firewall.
